Rugby Wins Gonzaga Rugby Classic, St. Edward's Up Next

Rugby hosted its 13th annual Gonzaga Rugby Classic on Saturday, April 20th, and Sunday, April 21st. The Gonzaga Rugby Classic has grown into the biggest high school rugby tournament in the country, with 39 teams across five divisions: Boys’ Premier, Boys’ Varsity, Girls’ Varsity, JV, and Freshman. All of Gonzaga’s rugby teams played four short but tough matches over the two days.

In the premier division, Varsity Purple started the weekend with a great game against St. Louis University HS, followed by a game against Fairfield Prep, defeating both teams.

On Sunday, both Varsity Purple and Varsity Black played in the semifinals and finals in their respective divisions. Varsity Black won their semifinal match and eventually were defeated in the championship by Atlanta Youth Rugby. The Purple Eagles played in the semifinals and finals against Shawnigan Lake and then the Charlotte Cardinals, defeating them to win the Premier division 21-19.
