Headmaster's Welcome

“I will pose a question, that each of you can answer later: do you help young people to dream? I ask the question. It also means promoting dialogue and a culture of encounter, so that all can learn to acknowledge, appreciate and love each person as a brother or sister, and most fundamentally, as a beloved child of God. Here, we cannot overlook the essential role of religion in educating people’s hearts.”

— Pope Francis, Address to the Board of Trustees of the University of Notre Dame, 2024
At Gonzaga, we embrace Pope Francis’s call as both challenge and mission. In the spirit of cura personalis (care for the whole person), that is a hallmark of a Jesuit education, we seek not only to educate minds but to form hearts, to cultivate a culture of encounter, and to help young men dream boldly and love deeply.

Gonzaga College High School is more than just an educational institution; it is a tight-knit community of believers guided by God and devoted to one another. We stand firmly rooted in rich traditions and unwavering faith, where prayer and service hold equal importance to all other facets of life. Within this community, the spirit of care and encounter prevails, as demonstrated by our dedicated alumni who generously contribute their time, resources, and talents; our parents who tirelessly plan and execute countless activities and events, often spending more time at Gonzaga than at home; and our exceptional faculty, coaches, and staff go above and beyond to mold minds, strengthen bodies, and warm hearts. They work to keep our school beautiful and our students safe.  The video below offers a glimpse into the deep relationships that form between our students and the dedicated educators who guide, challenge, and care for them.

At Gonzaga, our collective effort is driven by a profound purpose: the development and well-being of our greatest asset, the young men of our school. Our motivation is not to create wealth or fame, secure college admissions, or earn accolades; rather, we work tirelessly for God's greater glory. We do this so that our students—our children—may enter the world and both be the face of Christ for and see the face of Christ in every person they encounter. That alone is our measure of success.

During their four years on Eye Street, our students are invited to dream big and to imagine lives of impact and of integrity. We are privileged to walk with them on that journey. Together, we labor, pray, and serve, always trusting that God is at work in our midst. How else can one explain the indelible and everlasting Gonzaga spirit?

It is my greatest hope that the Gonzaga spirit will continue to flourish, animated by our shared commitment to forming young men who are open to growth, intellectually competent, religious, loving, and committed to doing justice. I consider it a tremendous blessing to be part of this sacred endeavor.

Sincerely,

Mr. Thomas K. Every II
