Fencing Narrowly Defeats Georgetown Prep

Gonzaga Fencing is in its second year as a varsity program and opened its season on Tuesday, March 11 against Georgetown Prep in the Carmody Center. The match took place on two strips with the Eagles narrowly defeating the Little Hoyas 45-44 on Strip 1 and winning 45-40 on Strip 2.
 
On Strip 2, Jake Canestrari '27 made his first appearance in a school competition and Zack Pepperman '25 made 8 points in bout 3 and the the Eagles carried that momentum through to take the strip. James Prater '25 and Aidan Sokolov '26 also contributed to the win.

Strip 1 came down to the wire as the Eagles recovered after an early lead by the Little Hoyas. Navid Modanlou '27 and Dylan Amolsch '25 pushed hard with Amolsch winning in bout 9 to claim the strip 45-44. Sam Hahm ‘25  and Tom Brady ‘25  also contributed to the victory.
