Fencing Wins First Two Matches in Program History
Started as a club in the Fall of 2006, Fencing became Gonzaga’s newest varsity sport this spring -- providing a unique and fun opportunity for students to develop greater poise, confidence, and focus through Olympic sport fencing. The team competed in and won its first two varsity matches in program history this week.
In each team match, nine bouts between opposing fencers take place, with the first team to 45 points earning the strip victory. The team to earn two strip victories is declared the winner of the team match.
On Wednesday, March 13, the team traveled to St. Anselm's Abbey in NE Washington, DC, and got the win with scores of 45-27, 45-43, and 31-45. And on Thursday, the Eagles traveled to Georgetown Prep, where we beat the Little Hoyas with scores of 45-38, 41-45, and 45-34.
