Basketball Set to Face Top-Ranked Montverde in Maine
Varsity Basketball will face the top team in the nation in Portland, Maine tonight. The Montverde Academy Eagles, a Florida prep school, boasts the top-ranked player in the country in Cooper Flagg, who hails from Newport, Maine.
Gonzaga will face Montverde tonight Friday, January 5 at 7:30 PM, in a showcase that's being dubbed the Maine Event -- a two-day slate of games this weekend in which Flagg and his top-ranked Eagles will play in front of his hometown fans. You can watch the game on NBA.com here (NBA TV account required). And you can also watch via livestream here for a recurring subscription fee of $10 (note: you can cancel the monthly subscription anytime after the broadcast).
Coach Steve Turner's Eagles are suffered their first loss this week on the road at O'Connell in a close game to fall to an 11-1 record on the season. We are ranked #16 in the country via the latest ESPN Top 25 rankings. Eye Street Hoops notched three impressive wins over the Christmas break to win the King Cotton Classic Championship, 76-72 over Westminster Academy (FL) on Friday, December 29. Coach Turner also earned his 450th career win in the process!
