Football Soars Past McNamara for First WCAC Win

Gonzaga earned its first WCAC win of the season with a commanding 38–6 victory over McNamara on Saturday, October 10. Playing in front of a great reunion crowd, the Eagles took control in the second quarter when a 41-yard punt by Quinn Maguire ’28 pinned the Mustangs at their own 1-yard line, setting up a safety by senior captain Jago Woodards for an early 2–0 lead.

Shortly after, sophomore cornerback CJ Simms Jr. intercepted a pass near midfield and returned it 53 yards for a touchdown to extend the lead to 9-0. Woodards added a 1-yard touchdown run, followed by a two-point conversion from junior quarterback Nick Ferrante, pushing the advantage to 17-0 at halftime.

Gonzaga maintained complete control in the second half. Senior captain Lincoln Shelton ’27 returned the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown, junior Tyler Freeman added an 11-yard touchdown reception from Ferrante, and Simms Jr. capped the scoring with an 86-yard fumble return for a touchdown. McNamara added a late touchdown on its final drive. Here are some great photos from the win:
