Athletic Department Announces New Crew Coach
The Gonzaga Athletic Department recently announced that Coach Tom Daley will serve as its new Head Varsity Crew coach.
Coach Daley began his rowing career at Philadelphia's Father Judge High School and went on to row at Temple University. He is a longtime masters rower, currently rowing for the Capital Rowing Club.
Coach Daley joined the Gonzaga coaching staff five years ago as an Assistant Freshman Coach. In his third year as head of the Gonzaga Freshman program in 2019, Tom’s Freshman 8 and Novice 8 won the WMIRA Championship. The Freshman 8 went on to make the finals of both Stotesbury and SRAA Nationals for the second year in a row, a Gonzaga first. Over the last three years, Tom has sent more Freshman athletes on to the Varsity per year than any prior Freshman coach.
Off the water, Tom does contract investigative work, having recently retired after a 32-year career in law enforcement. He and his wife, Claudia, live in Falls Church, Virginia with their three children, including Patrick ’11 who rowed at Gonzaga.
"Tom has developed a passion for Gonzaga, our school's Jesuit mission and, in particular, for the growth and development of Gonzaga's student-athletes," said Athletic Director Joe Reyda '85. "Tom has experienced great success as an assistant coach and he's positioned well to continue that for the program into the future. We look forward to Coach Daley's leadership of the program both in and out of the water."
