Annual Black History Month Assembly Celebrates Phenomenal Women
On Wednesday, February 19, the Gonzaga school community came together for its annual Black History Month assembly, which focused on honoring Black women.
Mrs. Julie Ennis (P ‘21) served as the keynote speaker, and shared her story as someone whose ancestors were among the 272 enslaved people sold by the Maryland Jesuits in 1838 to pay off Georgetown University's debts. Mrs. Ennis encouraged others to explore their histories as well to foster deeper appreciation and understanding of one another.
The assembly also included student video interviews, reflections and poetry, and a performance by the Chamber Choir. At the end of the assembly, students recognized and gave flowers to the Black women on Gonzaga's faculty and staff who enrich the Gonzaga community daily.
