Soccer Completes Undefeated Season with DCSAA Championship!
Congratulations to Gonzaga soccer, which completed an undefeated season this past Sunday night by defeating St. Albans in the DCSAA final. After the first 40 minutes of the game, the Eagles trailed the Bulldogs 1-0 at halftime on a cold, rainy night at Carlini Field on the campus of Catholic University.
The second half was much of the same, with St. Alban's controlling play. But the Eagles never gave up and drew a free kick just outside the box in the 80th minute; sophomore Charlie Waller served up a perfect ball for junior Julian Antezana's header to tie the game and force overtime.
Both overtimes were played with a driving wind affecting play. The teams played two scoreless periods forcing penalty kicks to decide the champion. Antezana joined seniors Thomas Gabay, Benjamin Feinberg, Noah Winder and junior Declan Lynn as the goal scorers in the shootout. And senior goalie Colin Crowe sealed the victory with this save, as the Eagles came away with the dramatic 5-4 win. You can watch the complete game highlights below, and read a recap of the game from the Washington Posthere.
The team completed a dream season reminiscent of their 2022 campaign which also culminated in an undefeated record and WCAC and DCSAA titles. This year, Coach Waller's team finished 22-0-2.
