Crew Wins First WMIRA Championship Since 2016
On Sunday, May 7th, Crew competed in the WMIRA Championship, held at the Occoquan Reservoir in Lorton Virginia.
The Eagles had a historic day by sweeping the first, second, and third varsity eight races. "Many in the D.C. area claim it's the top spot for rowing in the country, and they view WMIRA as the top local regatta" said Washington Post writer Spencer Nusbaum. You can find the entire article here.
The first varsity eight finished in first with a time of 4:19.80, defeating second place St. Albans by a total of 2.6 seconds. This was the first time Gonzaga won the WMIRA Championship since 2016.
"Across the board, from the First Varsity through the Freshman, the boys performed brilliantly," said Head Crew Coach Tom Daley. "The competition in this league is always at a high level, but at the WMIRA Championships, well you can just imagine. We're glad to have come out on the right side of each race and are beyond proud of ALL of the boys. "

Next up, Crew will compete in the Stotesburg Regatta, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Saturday, May 20th.
