Football Beats Benedictine, Faces DeMatha Next

Football travelled to Richmond, VA on Friday, October 4 to face the Benedictine College Prep Cadets, which are led by head coach Greg Lilly, Gonzaga Class of 1989. Gonzaga came away with a hard fought 23-16 victory after a very well-played game.

The game started with a blocked punt by Sam Terry '25 that resulted in a safety and two points for the Eagles. The Cadets tied the game on the next possession with a blocked punt of their own for a safety and two points. Benedictine took the lead with a touchdown and it was 9-2 after the first quarter. Running back David Fred '25 scored for Gonzaga in the second quarter to knot the game at 9-9 going into halftime. In the third quarter, Gonzaga got touchdowns from captains Lincoln Fisher '25 and Kainoa Winston '25 to give the team a 23-9 lead. After giving up a touchdown on a kickoff return by the Cadets allowing them to pull back to within one score, the Gonzaga defense stood strong the rest of the game to secure the victory. Rex Stinchcomb '25 played exceptionally well in the defense effort. Here are some great photos from the game:
