Fine Arts on Display

Fine arts at Gonzaga were celebrated in fine fashion on Thursday, April 25th when the Gonzaga Arts Department organized both an art exhibit and spring concert.

Visual arts students across all courses had their work displayed in a gallery setting in the Upper Commons. During the art show, winners of the annual Spirit of Gonzaga photo contest were recognized and received their awards. The evening also served as senior night for members of the Class of 2024 taking AP and Independent Art courses. Each AP student displayed a feature frame, giving a glimpse into their independent AP portfolios. 

While parents, faculty and students perused the gallery, the Upper Commons was filled with the talents of Gonzaga musicians. The jazz band kicked things off, followed by the chamber choir playing popular oldies Happy Together and What a Wonderful World, conducted by seniors Hayden Wierzba and Matthew Clifford and accompanied by members of the applied piano program. The concert choir performed Coldplay favorite Viva la Vida.

 

The gallery closed just before 7 p.m., when the crowd moved into Sheehy Theater where the symphonic band, concert band and chamber orchestra gave their spring performances. “I couldn’t be prouder of my students’ preparation for this performance,” said Director of Bands and Orchestra Andrew Wood. “They brought all of their focus and hard work to a challenging program and sounded fantastic.”

Fine Arts Department Chair Shelly Farace was delighted with the wide variety of talent displayed. “I am very proud of each and every student in the fine arts program at Gonzaga. It is amazing to see their artistic skills and individual expression grow.”
